Description of this three-day tour from Cairns:
(The arrangements for Turtle Cove, Pt Douglas, etc. could be slightly different. )
You will go to the popular tourist township of Kuranda by cable car over tropical forests and the Barron Falls. After a walk in Kuranda, you will visit Rainforestation Nature Park (with an Aboriginal program): an Aboriginal dance show, boomerang, spear and didgeridoo lessons, an Army Duck Rainforest Tour, a buffet lunch, and, if you wish, a photo with a koala in your arms and a visit to the Wildlife Park (local zoo).
After that, you will go to see huge termite nests, and then the small city of Mareeba which claims 300 days of sunshine per year.
Then you will be heading to the unique limestone caves of Chillagoe in the Australian outback (more than 200 km west of Cairns). You will have a stop at a pub and you could buy some drinks if you wish, and then you will have dinner in a local restaurant/café.
You will be staying at Chillagoe Observatory and Eco Lodge. There is a sky observatory there with a telescope (and if wish, you could watch stars, southern hemisphere constellations, including Southern Cross, planets and nebulas (when the observatory is in operation)).
Breakfast in the hotel. Visit to one of the Chillagoe caves and to unusual rock formations, including Balancing Rock and an Aboriginal cave with images on the wall. Swimming in a picturesque place. Lunch in a local restaurant/café.
Then you will go to Granite Gorge with huge boulders where lots of wild rock wallabies live, and you will be able to hand feed them. You will continue our journey through vast banana and mango plantations.
You will go to a tropical forest to see a giant – an ancient fig tree in the middle of a jungle. You will go through a cute little town of Yungaburra and have dinner in a picturesque pub. Then you will go to your hotel which is located near Lake Eacham, an old crater lake in the middle of a jungle. You will be staying in one of the hotel cottages. You will be able to watch night tropical forest animals and birds: possums, including gliders, other forest marsupials, and beautiful birds.
You will have breakfast in a cosy café by Lake Barrine, another crater lake. You will see some special flora and fauna, including orchids and huge ancient Kauri pine trees.
Then you will go back to Lake Eacham where you will be able to see fish and turtles, and have a swim. After that, we will go to a place where one of the rarest and unique animals of the world lives – the platypus. It is one of the only two egg-laying mammals in the world and it inhabits the most remote places in Australia with pure water and clean environment. You will be able to see the platypus in the wild in its natural habitat. Then your route will take you to the beautiful Millaa Millaa Falls which have a perfect shape and are amongst the most beautiful waterfalls in Australia.
After that, you will visit an old Spanish castle, Paronella, situated in a tropical forest next to another beautiful waterfall. We will have lunch there. Then you will be heading back to Cairns, and will visit a forest river and the Babinda Falls, if you wish.
In Cairns you could visit some places popular with gays: clubs and restaurants. You could also enquire about such activities as Tropical Pride which includes a Fair Day; concerts, balls and parties; and post Sydney Mardi Gras recovery at the famous Turtle Cove resort on the Coral Sea.
Tour duration: 10 hours. 3 full days (10 hours per day).
